Compromise of 1850- The compromise of 1850 also known as the fugitive slave act, abolished slave trade in Washington D.C.
The Kansas Nebraska act- This act was passed on may 30, 1854. Passing this act allowed the people in Nebraska and Kansas to deiced weather to be slave states or not.
Bleeding Kansas- This was a series of bloody confrontations in the U.S involving anti-slavery. This was a war known as the Border War because it was right at the Border.
The Dred Scott Decision- Dred Scott was a free man in the western territories due to popular sovereignty. The US Supreme justice decided that if you were a slave you would not be free if taken into a western territory. The Supreme Courts justices were predominately pro-slavery.
Lincoln-Douglas Debates- The Lincoln-Douglas Debates were a series of Seven debates between the republican senator Abraham Lincoln and the democratic senator Stephen Douglas. These debates where aimed to gain the free state of Illinois but mainly covered the topic of slavery in the United States.
Harper's Ferry- Battle between the Confederate States and the United States Where they invaded the state of Maryland and fought for 2 days before the United Sates won control.
Lincoln's Election- Tuesday, November 6th, 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected president of the United Sates. Between election day and Lincolns Inauguration seven southern states left the confederacy.
Fort Sumter- April 12th, 1861 the first shots of the civil war were fired on this day. The confederate navy open fire all day but the US in habitants survived.
Bull Run- The first major battle of the Civil War. Fought in Prince William Country, Virginia in 1861. The Union took a loss but they were poorly lead.
Antietam- First ground battle fought on union soil. The bloodiest single day of battle in US history. A tally of 22,717 people dead or missing.
Emancipation Proclamation- A presidential proclamation declaring over 3 million slaves in southern colonies, "free" because it ban slavery in the south. This had almost no effect but led to the end of the war.
Gettysburg & Gettysburg Address- Was considered the turning point in the war. The single most casualties over the whole war happened in Gettysburg. The battle lasted three days, the Union stopped attacks from the Confederate leaders. The Gettysburg address was a speech delivered by Abraham Lincoln months after the battle of Gettysburg, which address the rights of all people and the declaration of independence. Andersonville Prison- A confederate prisoner of war camp. Conditions were rash and the camp was filled to 4x its capacity. Lead by Captain Henry Wirz who was later tried for war crime and hung.
Surrender at Appomattox Court House- The final battle before the Confederates surrendered to the Union. In 1865 the final engagement between Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant.
Assassination of Abraham Lincoln- Lincoln was assassinated in 1865 in petersen house, washington DC. He was killed by john wilkes boothe while watching a play.
